Just like Cyanogen ( A master Android programmer from CyanogenMod.com) predicted the Droid X has been rooted. Meaning it gives full root access to users. With root access, users can change detailed settings in the system normally not allowed. For example, with root access users can install custom ROM’s and change the look and feel of the phone all together. They can also remove carrier specific user interfaces if they choose to. Example, Run DROID X without the Motorola UI it comes with.
User with SU access, can even change the clocking speed of the processor to make it run at different frequencies for different conditions (sleep mod vs processing mod). The news of the root access comes to us from Droid X forms. The reason this is big news, is because earlier it was thought that rooting the Droid X would be very difficult or even impossible. Motorola had used a two level approach to prevent rooting ( the reason for the two systems by Motorola is debatable) , they had a bootloader architecture and then had a hardware device called the ‘e-fuse’ built in the processor that would theoretically blow a fuse if it sensed a custom ROM - essentially bricking the device.
I really do not think its Motorola’s intention to stop rooting of the device. Android is an open source system and culture. Their strength is allowing users control of their own devices. Unlike you know who Wink ! Wink !
Update:
For the lucky and brave souls that want to root your Droid X here are the instructions. Thanks to Droid X Forums.
